Helping your pet live a healthier life

As well as preventing unwanted litters, desexing has important health benefits for both female and male dogs and cats.

The benefits of desexing include:

  • No pregnancies or unwanted litters
  • Protection for females against uterine infections such as pyometra
  • A possible lower risk of mammary tumours in females
  • No risk of testicular cancer in males
  • Less roaming, urine marking and mating-related behaviour in some males

We're here to support your pet throughout their changing needs and different stages of life.

What happens during surgery?

Desexing is performed under general anaesthesia, with careful monitoring and pain relief throughout. Before surgery, your pet will have a health assessment, and we may recommend a pre-anaesthetic blood test. Our nursing team watches over your pet as they recover, and we’ll give you clear instructions for a comfortable recovery at home.

When is the right time to desex my pet?

The ideal age depends on your pet’s species, breed, size and health. Cats and smaller dogs are often desexed earlier, while some larger dogs may benefit from waiting until they are more physically mature. Our veterinarians will help you work out the best timing for your pet.
